A new directive for infant nutrition came into force throughout Europe at the start of 2008 for infant and follow-on formula. New findings from science have made it possible for infant formula to approximate breastmilk even further. The EU’s goal is, among other things, to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as early as infancy. The risk of disease has increased as a result of today’s changed lifestyles, like lack of exercise for instance. The risk however can be significantly reduced with the right diet from the very start and with plenty of exercise. Humana GmbH was the first manufacturer to introduce formula on the market that complied with the new directive. By 31/12/2009 all manufacturers must have changed their infant and follow-on formula.
The new infant nutrition directive governs the basic composition of the infant and follow-on formula. It takes into account the latest scientific findings and is in accordance with the dietary requirements for healthy infants.
